Weekly Highlights: Training, Triumphs and Team Support

Fletcher Street Cottage Weekly Highlights: 26th – 29th November 2024

At Fletcher Street Cottage, every week brings us closer to our mission of supporting the most vulnerable in our community. From offering essential services to celebrating personal successes, here’s a look at this week’s highlights.

Highlights

  • On Thursday, Steve and the volunteer team prepared a delicious and healthy breakfast bowl for everyone, ensuring our clients were well nourished to start their day.
  • Fletcher Street Cottage staff attended Enhancing Workforce Responses to Sexual Violence Training at the Byron Community Centre. This training is part of our commitment to providing a trauma-informed approach to the services we offer.
  • We were able to support a man who had been rough sleeping into temporary accommodation. He was extremely grateful for the assistance, particularly as he had been worried about the rain that was coming.
  • We attended the Byron Shire Committee Against Domestic and Family Violence Meeting, where we collaborated with local organisations to ensure a coordinated response to domestic and family violence across our community.
  • One of our clients, who we supported into emergency accommodation, shared this heartfelt message:
I am so grateful for the support I received from Fletcher Street Cottage. Thanks to your help, I was able to secure emergency accommodation and take steps toward rebuilding my life. I have just applied for a job and I am getting paid tomorrow. The support I received truly made a difference, and I feel like I’ve had a breakthrough. Without it, I don’t know where I would be right now - likely stuck in a cycle of struggle. I am committed to going to work and continuing my search for long-term accommodation. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity and hope.
  • Our Community Support Workers (CSWs) helped two young vulnerable men return to their support networks, giving them a sense of relief as they departed Fletcher Street Cottage knowing they were heading home.
  • We served 191 delicious breakfasts, ensuring our clients started their day with a warm and nourishing meal.
