Collaboration, Connections and Celebrations
This week at Fletcher Street Cottage, we continued our mission to support the community through collaboration, learning and celebration. Here's a look at the highlights from our week.
Highlights:
- This week, we attended our monthly Service Coordination meeting with key stakeholders within the homelessness sector working in the Byron Shire. These collaboration meetings are essential for us to work together to bring action and change for our clients.
- On Wednesday, Maddi and Damian met with Byron Community College’s students studying Mental Health to discuss the important work we do at Fletcher Street Cottage and potential career pathways. We’re grateful to have two students from Byron Community College currently completing their placements with us, contributing to our mission while gaining valuable experience.
- We also met with the Byron Shire Committee Against Domestic and Family Violence to discuss local support for women and children fleeing domestic violence. This included referral pathways and sector updates. You can read more about The Vagina Conversations here. This annual fundraiser supports women escaping domestic and family violence.
- On Thursday, Jennifer, our Community Support Worker and Art Space facilitator, ran a beautiful Art Space session. These sessions continue to provide a safe and creative environment for clients to express themselves.
- This week, our Community Support Worker Suzanne attended the Financial Inclusion Conference. The conference focused on building resilience during the cost of living crisis, bringing together policy makers, community services and current research. Conferences like this help us use best practices to support our clients more effectively.
- On Thursday, we had John and David from Liberation Larder join us for our team meeting to discuss rescued and repurposed food and explore ways we can work together to better support those in need. We're excited to partner with them for a positive impact.
- On Friday, we celebrated Steve’s 1-year anniversary at Fletcher Street Cottage and his birthday! A huge thank you to Steve for his dedication and hard work over the past year.
- Over the week, we served 197 hot breakfasts and supported 234 clients, providing essential care and support for our community.
