Weekly Highlights: Meetings, Meals and Making a Difference

Fletcher Street Cottage Weekly Highlights: 5th – 8th November 2024

Each week at Fletcher Street Cottage, we’re dedicated to creating a safe, supportive space for our community’s most vulnerable. From essential services and practical support to meaningful moments of connection, our team is here to make a difference. Here’s a look at what we accomplished this week.

Highlights:

  • On Wednesday, Fletcher Street Cottage staff attended the End Street Sleeping Collaboration meeting, joining key stakeholders from NSW Health, Momentum Collective, Social Futures, Homes NSW, Community Corrections, Byron Shire Council, and more. The meeting focused on discussing vital wraparound support for clients and working collaboratively to end rough sleeping.
  • We also participated in the Lismore Interagency Meeting, where Fstaff met with Northern Rivers Community Gateway, The Winsome, Homes NSW, Social Futures, Momentum, Services Australia, Northern Rivers Tenants Advocacy Service and other crucial service providers. These meetings are essential for networking and ensuring a collective approach toward positive outcomes for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
  • Over the week, we welcomed 7 new faces to our service and served a total of 173 breakfasts. We are grateful to the incredible volunteers who generously gave 63 hours of their time to help run our laundry and shower program and provide breakfast.
  • Amrita’s Pantry treated our clients to a delicious vegetarian breakfast, featuring whipped tofu cream, poached eggs, avocado, mushrooms, greens and salsa verde. You can read more about Amrita's Pantry here.
  • One of our clients dropped in to share their success story: they’ve secured accommodation in Lismore via one of our referrals to a visiting service. They’re settling in well and are excited to build connections in their new community.
  • We celebrated a client’s new employment at a local organisation. Thanks to a referral pathway through Fletcher Street Cottage, she is now housed and taking the next step toward stability.
