Weekly Highlights: Christmas Cheer, Garden Growth and Community Support

As 2024 came to a close, we reflected on all the wonderful moments and accomplishments at Fletcher Street Cottage. We are grateful for our dedicated volunteers, the support of our community and the opportunity to serve those in need. Here's a look at what we've been up to over the holiday season.

Highlights:

  • On 17th December, we celebrated Lara, our amazing Art Space volunteer, as it was her last day with us. Lara has been a huge part of our community, dedicating her time to listening, supporting and creating alongside our clients. We are deeply grateful for everything she has contributed to our team.
  • In Art Space on Tuesday 17th December, we prepared for Christmas in our usual fun-filled way, singing songs, enjoying delicious food and sharing lots of laughs. It was a wonderful time of connection and joy as we got ready for the festive season.
  • Byron Bay Herb Nursery generously donated plants to help us create a beautiful herb garden for our breakfasts. A special shout-out goes to Dave, one of our breakfast volunteers, who has supported us in nurturing this garden to make it even more bountiful.
  • Our Wednesday Wombats breakfast volunteers have been fantastic, and we welcomed two new volunteers to the team. We’re excited to have them join us in providing support to our community.
  • Steve worked his magic in the kitchen, cooking up a Christmas feast to bring festive cheer to our clients. We are always grateful for the delicious meals he creates for everyone.
  • On Christmas Eve, we made Christmas wreaths as a fun, creative activity. A big thank you to Jennifer for guiding the group and making it such a lovely time.
  • We were able to help a client get home to his family for Christmas, thanks to our partnership with We Are Mobilise. A huge thank you to them for their support in making this possible!
  • Fletcher Street Cottage remained open throughout the Christmas and New Year period, only closing on public holidays. During this time, we supported over 300 people, offering emergency relief such as tents, sleeping bags, food vouchers and bus tickets to help people get home for the holidays. We also provided a safe space for individuals to come together and connect during what can be a difficult time of year for many.
