Weekly Highlights: Accreditation, Acts of Heroism and New Beginnings

Weekly Highlights: 29th October – 1st November 2024

Each week at Fletcher Street Cottage, we’re dedicated to creating a safe, supportive space for our community’s most vulnerable. From essential services and practical support to meaningful moments of connection, our team is here to make a difference. Here’s a look at what we accomplished this week.

  • ASES Accreditation: We are officially ASES Accredited! This certification is a testament to our commitment to excellence in service delivery.
  • Vital Visiting Services: We hosted several key services this week, including Epic Assist, Community Corrections, Assertive Outreach Byron Bay, Homeless Health Outreach Team, Social Futures (Connecting Home) and First Light Health Care. These collaborations continue to provide critical support to our clients.
  • New Mental Health Pathways: Our team had a productive meeting with Kate from Healthy Hub Connect to discuss new referral pathways and mental health support options for our clients. We’re excited about these enhanced opportunities for care.
  • Acts of Heroism: One of our service users shared a remarkable yet humble story of saving two children caught in a rip at Tallow Beach. Despite his heroic actions, he requested no recognition, reminding us of the quiet strength and bravery within our community.
  • A Mother’s Gratitude: A service user’s mother called our Daily Coordinator, Will, to express her heartfelt appreciation. She witnessed firsthand the positive changes in her son’s life thanks to the care and support provided by Fletcher Street Cottage. Stories like these keep us inspired!
  • Welcoming Our New Operations Manager: We’re thrilled to welcome Michelle, our new Operations Manager, and look forward to working alongside her to make a bigger impact.
  • Volunteer Milestone: We celebrated Freya’s incredible contribution of over 50 hours of volunteering (see photo). Freya has been a cornerstone of our Friday team, and while we are sad to see her leave for Sydney, we are so grateful for her dedication and passion.
  • Community Engagement: This week, we had 253 visitors, including 11 new clients who joined our community.
