Fletcher Street Cottage Weekly Highlights: 1st – 4th April 2025

Podiatry, Trauma Support and Housing Milestones

This week at Fletcher Street Cottage, we’ve been busy with a variety of services, celebrations and ongoing support for our community. Here’s a look at what’s been happening.

Highlights:

  • We kicked off the week with Nic, our Podiatrist from Right Food Podiatry, visiting on Tuesday. Nic provides invaluable care to our clients, ensuring they’re able to maintain their health and wellbeing.
  • Maddi (Assistant Manager) and Will (Community Support Worker) attended the Service Coordination meeting on Wednesday with key stakeholders from the homelessness sector. These meetings are crucial for ensuring effective coordination of care and resources for those experiencing homelessness.
  • Thursday was a busy day at Fletcher Street Cottage, with our visiting hairdresser, GP, Mental Health Team and Mary from the Hep C testing program all offering vital services to our clients.
  • We ended the day with a beautiful wellness session gifted to us by Dr Jane Barker. In this session, we discussed all things vicarious trauma, which is so important for staff wellbeing and longevity. We sincerely thank Dr Jane Barker for her ongoing support of our team.
  • Thursday also saw our Art Space session, where our clients made paper flowers, inspired by the Mad Hatters Tea Party from the previous week. The creative space continues to be a highlight for our clients.
  • A huge THANK YOU to Bill from XTM for a generous donation of waterproof jackets. These jackets will be essential in providing protection to our clients during wet weather.
  • We were overjoyed to hear that one of our long-term clients has secured safe and stable housing. This is an incredible milestone and a testament to the ongoing support and hard work of our team.
  • On Friday, Maddi spoke with Louise O’Connell on BayFM to discuss our upcoming Women’s Space. The interview provided an opportunity to share more about this important initiative.
  • We’ve been very grateful for the continued support of RSS (Recovery Support Services) workers from Uniting, who have been helping us and our clients apply for assistance following the recent weather event.
  • Over the week, we served 195 hot breakfasts and our volunteer team supported over 50 people in accessing our laundry facilities.
