Winter Warmer Homelessness Relief Fundraising Cabaret: A Night of Compassion and Community Support

On Thursday 13 June, 2024, the community will come together at Fins at Plantation House in Duranbah for an evening of compassion, unity and entertainment. Hosted by DharmaCare, an Australian charity dedicated to creating life-changing opportunities for the destitute and disadvantaged, the Winter Warmer Homelessness Relief Fundraising Cabaret promises a night filled with captivating performances, art exhibitions and delectable dinner and drinks, all in support of a crucial cause.

Kate Love, Communications Manager at Byron Community Centre, says:

Events like Winter Warmer highlight the incredible power of community spirit. By coming together, we can provide much-needed support and hope to those facing homelessness in our region. Homelessness is particularly challenging in winter, when people face sleeping on the street, in tents or cars during the colder months.

The event will feature performances by Mandy Nolan, a celebrated comedian and author known for her insightful humour, and The Space Cowboy, a world-renowned performer famed for his extraordinary feats and interactive artwork. Attendees will also be treated to the soulful reggae sounds of CC the Cat, the cultural dance expressions of the Kinship Doobai Dancers, and the inspiring artwork of Andia Cally. Aunt Jackie will open the event with a heartfelt Welcome to Country, setting the tone for an evening of connection and support.

Adding to the night's proceedings, Mandy Nolan will host a Q&A session with representatives from the charities benefitting from the funds raised, including Louise O’Connell, General Manager of Byron Community Centre's Fletcher Street Cottage; Kim Kennedy, Regional Manager North Coast at Fred's Place/Vinnies Australia; Fiona Hunt, Manager of Murwillumbah Community Centre; and Letechia Lucas, Community Capacity Worker at Pottsville Beach Neighbourhood Centre.

The Winter Warmer campaign is further bolstered by the generous support of local businesses and sponsors, including Tweed Shire Council and Byron Shire Council. Additionally, committed donors have pledged $20,000 for initial donation matching, effectively doubling the impact of contributions made during the event.

Charity Partners

The fundraising cabaret will support four vital charity partners: Fletcher Street Cottage in Byron Bay, providing essential services to those experiencing homelessness; Fred’s Place in Tweed Heads, offering a safe haven and comprehensive support; Murwillumbah Community Centre, a hub of social programs and services; and Pottsville Beach Neighbourhood Centre, dedicated to improving the quality of life for disadvantaged individuals through crucial assistance and material aid.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of compassion, community and support. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. For more information, and donations, and to RSVP and purchase tickets, visit the Winter Warmer Homelessness Relief Fundraising Cabaret page.
