Weekly Highlights: Tacos, Tenancies and Turning Lives Around

This past week at Fletcher Street Cottage has been filled with meaningful connections, impactful support and heartwarming moments. Here's a snapshot of what we accomplished:

  • Preventing Eviction: We were able to support a woman facing eviction, helping her to maintain her tenancy and avoid homelessness.
  • From Rough Sleeping to Stability: A long-term rough sleeper expressed, “I feel like I’ve won the lottery,” after we secured stable accommodation for him.
  • Breakfast with a Difference: Taco Love Bros sponsored a delicious breakfast, serving up burritos that our clients thoroughly enjoyed.
  • Serving the Community: In total, we served 171 breakfasts and provided assistance to 226 clients throughout the week.
  • Access to Key Services: We hosted 10 visiting services, including Community Corrections, EPIC Assist Employment, Homeless Health Outreach Team, a GP, Social Futures' Connecting Home Program and more, all working together to meet the needs of our community.
  • New Faces: We welcomed 9 new clients who walked through our doors for the first time, beginning their journey of receiving vital support.
  • Using New Skills: Thanks to recent training with Matt Parry on Borderline Personality Disorder, we successfully applied new techniques, seeing positive outcomes for clients in need of specialised care.
  • Building Relationships with Police: We strengthened our collaboration with local police, working closely to support mutual clients in the best ways possible.
  • Generous Donation: A community member dropped by with a generous donation of $60, contributing to the ongoing support we provide.
  • Path to Rehabilitation: We helped a client who was eager to make positive changes enter a rehabilitation centre, offering them a fresh start.
  • Family Support: A family experiencing homelessness was placed in emergency accommodation, and we provided food and fuel to help them regain their footing.

Every week brings new challenges, but it’s the support of our community and dedicated team that makes it all possible. Thank you to everyone who plays a part in the Fletcher Street Cottage journey!
