Showers, Nourish Bowls and Street Count Insights

This week at Fletcher Street Cottage, we've been busy offering vital support, enjoying delicious meals together and celebrating the generosity of our community. Here's a look at what’s been happening.

Highlights:

  • This week, 250 people walked through our doors seeking support. 59 people made use of our shower facilities, and over 31 people accessed support appointments with our dedicated Community Support Workers. We are grateful to be able to assist so many people in need.
  • On Thursday, our volunteers and Breakfast Coordinator served up a delicious nourish bowl, packed with quinoa, roast veggies, avocado, salad greens, salsa verde, bacon and poached eggs. This meal kept our clients energised and ready for the day ahead.
  • We received a generous donation of towels, water bottles, blankets and clothing from The Surf House Byron Bay. We are deeply grateful for their contribution and ongoing support.
  • We were able to support a young man who has been sleeping rough in Byron Bay to return to his support network, where he can access housing. We’re happy to see him moving toward a more stable and secure future.
  • On Friday, we hosted our weekly Trivia Fun session. Marcus, our volunteer, hosted a fun and engaging trivia session that brought clients and staff together for some laughs and friendly competition.
  • On Friday 21st February, the Street Count was conducted in the Byron Shire by the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ). This annual street count gathers essential data about people experiencing street homelessness and helps to inform the best ways to target resources and support those who need it most.
