Homelessness in Byron Shire
Byron Shire has the largest cohort of rough sleepers in NSW
Statistics* on homelessness in NSW shows Byron Shire has the largest cohort of locals sleeping rough in the state, higher even than the City of Sydney. There were 348 rough sleepers counted across the Byron Shire in 2024, a 16% increase from February 2023. This needs to change!
Our Fletcher Street Cottage team are working hard to respond to this crisis and meet the needs of locals who are doing it tough, through essential services and practical support - but we need your help!

Breakfast Space
Help us serve nourishing meals. Each morning, we provide breakfast for around 60 locals - offering not just food, but a sense of community and a vital first step toward accessing support services.
Showers & Laundry
Help us restore dignity through clean, fresh starts. We provide hot showers, hygiene kits and laundry washes - supporting health, wellbeing and the ability to find and maintain employment.
Women's Space
Help us support vulnerable women in crisis. Transport, emergency relief and psychosocial support for women experiencing homelessness and escaping domestic violence -offering safety, dignity and hope.
Summer Kit
Help someone stay safe and comfortable in summer. Each kit includes a backpack, towel, hat, sunscreen and water bottle - essentials for those facing hardship in the heat.
Winter Kit
Provide warmth and comfort to a local doing it tough this winter. Each kit includes a backpack, jacket, thermos, tracksuit, thermals, gloves and a beanie - essentials to help brave the cold.
Sleep Pack
Give safer sleep to someone without a home. Each pack includes a tent, head torch, tarp, sleeping bag, sleeping mat and pillow - essentials for comfort and protection overnight.
