Are you an experienced Markets Manager looking for a meaningful position within your local community centre?

We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent part-time position located in the centre of Byron Bay (Jonson St) within our not-for-profit and charitable organisation, offering 15 hours per week over 3 days (hours/days negotiable).

The Byron Community Centre Markets Manager plays a significant role, as it's purpose is to provide strategic and operational leadership for all markets licensed to Byron Community Centre Ltd. This role is responsible for overseeing market operations, managing Market Coordinators and developing strategies to enhance the success and sustainability of Byron’s vibrant market scene. The Markets Manager collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s mission and financial goals.

Responsibilities

Major Position Functions

  • Develop and implement strategies for growth, profitability and community impact. Identifying new revenue opportunities, such as partnerships and market expansions. Ensure market alignment with Byron Community Centre’s values and objectives.
  • Manage market operations, including staffing, advertising, logistics and equipment. Manage Market Coordinators, ensuring delegation and accountability and implement improvements for optimal market operations and customer experiences. Ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to monitor and report on budgets, maintain profit/loss statements and develop cost-effective strategies to maximize revenue. Oversee stallholder fee structures and financial agreements.
  • Build relationships with stallholders, sponsors, councils and community groups. Lead communication and promotional efforts through various platforms and represent the Byron Community Centre in external forums to advocate for market development and funding.
  • Ensure market operations meet legal and financial standards. Develop risk management strategies and provide regular reports on market performance and future plans.
  • Lead and mentor market staff, conduct performance reviews and support professional development. Collaborate with the wider Byron Community Centre team to integrate market initiatives with other community services.

Job requirements

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in market/event management, business development, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven experience in financial oversight, including budget planning and revenue growth strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to manage complex situations independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with government, community, and business partners to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing and promotional strategies.
  • Understanding of compliance and risk management frameworks.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Byron Community Centre.

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Experience in securing funding, sponsorships, or community investment for events.
  • Knowledge of local government policies and licensing related to market operations.
  • Background in non-profit management or community development.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification

  • Compliance with Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S) policies and procedures.
  • Current National Police Check.
