"When the system failed, community prevailed. I wept, and then rejoiced at what the human spirit is capable of.” - Damon Gameau
Washed Away is an award-winning true story of one of Australia’s most devastating natural disasters, the 2022 Northern Rivers floods, told by the people on the front line who banded together to survive.
In March 2022, we faced Australia’s worst ever recorded flood, a truly fierce force that turned entire neighbourhoods into rushing waterways overnight.
Yet from this chaos rose everyday heroes: mums, dads, brothers, sisters, pro-surfers, helicopter pilots, and neighbours, all determined to help one another through the storm.
This story follows some of those survivors, who after enduring the initial devastation, faced an even greater challenge: navigating layers of red tape just to rebuild. Some managed on their own, a few received promised support, and many are still waiting. Despite these hurdles, the true spirit of Australian mate-ship shines brighter than ever.
Washed Away invites you to stand with these survivors. By purchasing a ticket or streaming the film online, you directly fund the support they need, and restore the hope that every family in the Northern Rivers can once again sleep in a safe and warm home.
Even as we acknowledge the challenges, our resolve remains strong: together, we rise above.
Serving as both a celebration of community strength and a call to action, Washed Away empowers viewers to be part of a movement that goes beyond storytelling. By supporting this film, you directly contribute to a cause that helps rebuild homes and uplift lives.
Washed Away has partnered with the Hands and Hearts project at the Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre, through this partnership fifty percent of the film’s profits will be donated directly to Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre a DGR charity which administers the funds ensuring every dollar raised goes directly toward trades and materials for those most in need. This initiative aims to bring people back home, restoring stability and hope for countless families still facing the life altering difficulties this natural disaster has caused.
Join us in this inspiring journey of recovery and empowerment, and help make a lasting difference.
