Every year, the Byron Community Centre hosts a range of special events for locals and visitors in Byron Bay.

Soul Street – New Year’s Eve

Soul Street is Byron Bay’s New Year’s event right in the heart of town!

Soul Street started on 31st December 2013. In 2018, around 10,000 visitors mingled with musicians, artisans and food stalls to create a chilled out vibe to bring in the new year. This popular street party is a great opportunity for the Byron Bay community and visitors to come together to celebrate New Year’s Eve and to showcase the creativity, lifestyle, and talent that we have in this region.

The centre of town is filled with market stalls, food vendors, face painter’s, four stages, numerous bands, buskers, circus performers, fire twirlers, drummers, and children’s activities. All the market stalls run down the centre of Jonson Street from Byron Community Centre to Lawson Lane and throughout Railway Park. Jonson Street is closed, along with Railway Park.

For this event, the Byron Community Centre partners with Byron Shire Council to promote a ‘Safe Summer in the Bay’. Soul Street New Year’s Eve in Byron Bay is a fun, safe, community-driven, alcohol-free event!

First Sun – New Year’s Day

First Sun

First Sun is Byron Bay’s New Year’s Day event at the most Easterly point of Australia’s mainland.

The event is organised by the Byron Community Centre and held at Cape Byron Lighthouse at the break of dawn. This mindful event first saw the light of day on 1st January 2014. Only one year later, around 1,000 people walked or made their way on a shuttle bus to witness the first rays of the sun from the Byron Bay Lighthouse.

First Sun is a family-friendly event which offers visitors and the local community alike the chance to start the New Year with conscious intentions and to reflect on the past year in a peaceful and communal way. Visitors will be able to listen to relaxing music, receive the first light of New Year’s Day and start the new year with a guided meditation, yoga and peaceful intent. All activities offered are free.
