Direct from the stage and straight to the cinema screen, Australian National Theatre Live in partnership with the Sydney Theatre Company presents the wildly popular Wharf Revue.
With their 15 years of unrelenting satire outlasting many of the politicians they sent up, The Wharf Revue anniversary edition will present a who’s who of 21st century embarrassments, from politicians to celebrities. Written and performed by Jonathan Biggins, Drew Forsythe, Phillip Scott and Amanda Bishop, the show reminds us of the good, the bad and the downright ugly moments of Australian politics some would rather us forget.
Among them, Julia and Kevin play Phantom of The Opera; Hawke and Keating organise numbers at the nursing home; Gina and Clive sail off on the Titanic; Mark Latham sings an operatic diary and George Brandis slips into a tutu for a biting satirical musical.
Filmed live on stage at the STC’s Wharf Theatre, The Wharf Revue: Celebrating 15 years is the perfect opportunity to see the production for the first time or to experience the thrill all over again.
★★★★“What’s so brilliant… is how the material constantly falls between sharp, incisive satire and deliriously cheap gags” The Daily Review
“Biggins’s impersonation of Peter Costello is unnervingly acute and Bishop has ABC anchor Emma Alberici and columnist/foodie Annabel Crabb to a tee. Tony Abbott as Thernadier (singing Leader of the House) in the night’s extended sketch, Les Liberales, is inspired casting.” Sydney Morning Herald
“After 15 years, the Wharf Revue still packs a great punch and in a climate of frequent political shake-ups, may this great Australian Satirical Party only continue!” Deb Meyer J Wire
