A subterranean adventure story of song and shadow

Urza and the Song in the Dark is a brand-new story for young people set in a subterranean wonderland of complex caves, underground lakes, fantastical creatures, and myths waiting to be discovered.

One day, a mysterious song leads a young girl on an adventure into the depths of the earth.
Along the way she befriends a lost explorer, gets pursued by an ancient dark force and finds herself caught up in a primeval story of myth and legend.

Shadow and Song combine to tell this intimate story.
Urza and the Song in the Dark is presented by physical performers and puppeteers working in hand-rendered, shadow projections, with live music from a host of quirky instruments. Young audiences will be able to sit up close to the action while puppets fly above their heads and performers play within touching distance.

Ambition, power and humanity’s connection to this planet are all explored as Urza seeks to escape from the caves under her city.
Through playful and exciting storytelling, Matriark Theatre gently encourages young audiences to consider their place as a denizen of planet earth.

Tender and whimsical, offbeat and a little bit scary, Urza and the Song in the Dark is an original and unique work for young and old.

This show is perfect for children ages 7+ but will appeal to anyone with a wild imagination.

Please note this is a general admission event – no allocated seating.
