RSC Merry Wives of Windsor_Quad

A rambunctious new version of Shakespeare’s hilarious comedy of suburbia, wives and over-inflated egos.

Down on his luck in the suburbs, Sir John Falstaff plans to hustle his way to comfortable retirement by seducing the wives of two wealthy men. But it’s the women of Windsor who really pull the strings and in a world of wealth, glamour and ‘well jel’ wives, they finally tell Sir John to ‘shut up’.

For a fat Englishman, a Welshman and a Frenchman, the only way is Windsor in this outrageous and fun-filled new version, directed by Fiona Laird.

David Troughton as Sir John Falstaff
Rebecca Lacey as Mistress Page
Beth Cordingly as Mistress Ford

★★★★ “A hoot. The whole play bursts with slap(stick) and tickle, prats and pratfalls and lots of laughs – there is not a weak link in the cast” The Times

★★★★ “David Troughton has great fun as Sir John Falstaff” Broadway World

★★★★ “Beth Cordingly and Rebecca Lacey give you a lovely many-stranded picture of the strong female friendship…the play has never felt so strongly feminist” The Independent

★★★★ “Fiona Laird’s brightly colourful and industriously daft production…there’s barely a gag-free minute” The Daily Telegraph

Please note: This is a screening of the theatre performance, recorded live at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on 12th September, 2018.
