With the current refugee situation at breaking point, SRI and Byron Community Centre invite you to Light the Dark’s afternoon of Music, Film, and Conversation at the Byron Theatre 3pm Sunday 27th September. Cakes and chai will be served from 3pm Music 3.15pm Film and Q and A 3.45pm- 5.30pm.
LIGHT THE DARK will feature award winning photographic work by David Maurice Smith, local musicians, Renee Seamless and Barnaby Smith and the award winning documentary Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, shot mostly with hidden cameras.
It will be followed by a Q and A with 2 guest speakers, an X case worker from Nauru detention centre, and a recent refugee from Afghanistan, federal politician Justine Elliot and Paul Spooner who has worked with refugees since1980 and created the Byron Welcomes Refugees a Byron council initiative in february earlier this year.
Our vision is to offer a way forward and a light to positive action in the smallest of ways with new organisations rising up in the community giving us an opportunity to continue supporting our global human family. Australian Homestay Network has reopened its doors to encourage and support families in billeting refugees fleeing from war zones. #SyrianRefugees and groups such as Little Offerings…/…/ are taking donations of goods and vouchers.
All funds are going to Communify, a Brisbane grassroots organisation supporting refugees with basic living expenses and a lifeline. If you would like to donate money, raffle prizes or have any skills and time to help in any way please contact  0412968841 or
