THE RITE OF SPRING
Witness Igor Stravinsky’s infamous and iconoclastic ballet, The Rite of Spring – one of the most influential performance masterpieces of the twentieth century.
Stravinsky‘s avant garde score and Nijinsky’s sacrilegious choreography caused outrage and rioting at the Paris premier in 1913. It was the beginning of the modern era, and one of the most famous nights in Arts history. Music, theatre & dance would never be the same again!
Join Byron Ballet as they make a tribute to these masters with their own original “family friendly” production – direction/choreography by Yvonne Hall (extra male choreography by Robert Kelly).
LES SYLPHIDES
Coupled with Chopin’s ethereal romantic ballet, Les Sylphides, from the same 1913 performance bill, this event completes a night to remember at the Byron Theatre.
The sublime music creates a sensual backdrop for the poet who imagines his inspirations. Sylphs in white tulle dresses waft across the stage, dancing in the moonlight.
Traditional choreography by Micheal Fokine
