After an absence of six years the Byron Bay Tango Festival is on again. All events take place at the Community Centre, right in the heart of the unbelievably beautiful Byron Bay, where spirituality, alternative lifestyles, tourism and beach culture live in harmony and peace.

The core of the festival has been the “immersion”class, where experienced and dedicated dancers are guided by“master”teachers to experience fresh and unique insights into their personal understanding and expression of Argentine Tango.

This core value has been retained. I am delighted that Nick Jones and Diana Cruz (Natural Tango, Colorado) have accepted the role of master teachers for the 2016 immersion class. The overarching theme they have chosen is disarmingly simple and profound: “La structura del abrazo”! A five hour journey (spread over two “seminars”) into the complexity of tango movements as seen from the perspective of the embrace- which is treated as a flexible, mutating entity. How good is that? Warning: this class is limited to 25 couples!

The festival also provides for those who prefer more structured workshops. Perhaps you want to add some casual dancing at daily practicas – balanced by a little beach therapy? No worries!

Whatever your day activities, the evenings are for dressing up and enjoying formal milongas in the intimate Auditorium of the Community Centre. We have a Welcome Milonga on Friday night and the Festival Milonga on Saturday with spectacular performances by Nick and Diana. And to close the festival there is an early Sunday evening Farewell Milonga where all will be treated to a performance by special Melbourne guests David and Dianne from Sidewalk Tango.

For your convenience there are three levels of bookings: a red pass for true tangonuts, for whom enough tango is never enough; a blue pass for anyone with a life; and a white pass for chilled out folk who thrive on yoga, milongas and practicas. All passes are very affordable and as an extra incentive, there’s an early bird price.

Your presence will make the festival that little bit more special. I look forward to sharing the experience with you.

And please keep up with the latest news and on our festival facebook.
