Hands on percussion fun for 2-7 year olds, with music by much loved Australian composers.

“What a clever way to expose the young to the delights of such music…it succeeded in spades.”

Featuring old-fashioned colonial folk tunes, sounds of the Australian bush, instrumental demonstrations, hands on percussion fun, and music by much loved Australian composers Ann Boyd, Ross Edwards, Percy Grainger, Elena Kats-Chernin and Peter Sculthorpe, Bilby’s Bluegum Melodies is the perfect introduction for your little ones to the vast sonic possibilities of piano, woodwinds and percussion, in an intimate and informal music show.

Come and hear a marimba, bass clarinet and waterphone for the first time and get your ears and imaginations tickled by the members of Ensemble Offspring.

Inspired by Australian bush classics such as The Magic Pudding, Blinky Bill and The Muddleheaded Wombat, Ensemble Offspring, Sydney’s favourite musical mavericks, take toddlers and their families on a journey through the wonderment of experiencing chamber music for the first time.

“And the music … was not nursery rhyme fare but contemporary classical music by great Australian composers… made fun and most listenable with Claire Edwardes navigating a clutch of percussion instruments, Jason Noble making characters of animals with his clarinets and Zubin Kanga using his piano to create atmosphere and mood.”

“Performed superbly by Ensemble Offspring… highly successful in drawing in a young audience. Programming of that concert was particularly memorable – some would say extraordinary – as the repertoire was entirely by Australian composers, cleverly integrated with tales of quintessential Australian characters.”
