BCC Volunteer Program
The Byron Community Centre operates within a Social Enterprise model. Underpinning all of the endeavours of the Centre is the BCC’s Volunteer Program. Over 480 volunteers are in the currently active register. Approximately 50-60 volunteers are involved in activities at the Centre each week. The Centre could not operate without the support of volunteers who work on the front desk and Box Office, they deal with an incredible myriad of questions! Volunteers are also crucial to the Community Services team plus Byron Theatre shows which utilise volunteer ushers, bar staff and production crew.

Opportunities for people
The Byron Community Centre endeavours to provide opportunities for people from all walks of life to contribute and participate as a volunteer in meaningful services and activities according to their individual abilities and interests. Volunteers utilize their existing skills; learn new skills; while performing tasks that contribute to the strength of the Byron community. Volunteers interact with the public, BCC staff and associates and with each other in co-operative, purposeful and rewarding ways.
The state-of-the-art Byron Theatre is attached to the Community Centre building and provides numerous opportunities for international, national and local cultural performances to be presented in Byron Bay. Both professional and amateur companies utilize the theatre and its facilities. Workshops, conferences, seminars and lectures are held in various rooms within the building. Volunteers work within the venue as trained ushers, caterers, bar staff, box office staff and event management personnel. Daytime Venue volunteers are provided with box office training and engage in various marketing and publicity activities to promote the events at the Centre.
The Byron Community Financial Services provides professional bookkeeping services to Not-For-Profit community organizations in the Byron Shire. Volunteers are trained by experienced bookkeepers in MYOB and office management practices. There is a potential pathway to employment through this area of the Volunteer Program.
