The Byron Biennale
The Byron Biennale is the reincarnation of the historically much loved Byron Arts Classic, a community event originally established in 1982 to exhibit the diverse range of artworks from artists in our region.
The Byron Arts Classic was established to promote support and advance the visual arts. The event was run as an annual 7-day celebration of inspiration, creativity and involvement in the visual arts. It was an inclusive community art exhibition throughout the Byron Community Centre featuring over 300 works by local artists. The annual program sought to engage with a local and national audience and had a goal of making visual art in all its facets more accessible to people from all ages and backgrounds – bringing art to the community and the community to art.
Building on the legacy of the Byron Arts Classic, the Byron Biennale will be an inclusive and inspiring event promoting creativity, diversity and culture. It will continue the legacy of raising funds for the Byron Community Centre. The event will involve curated exhibitions across the shire, a professional development program for artists, and a creative development program providing workshops and courses for local artists and visitors alike. Work will continue to kick off the first Byron Biennale on the 6 September 2018
