It ends where it began. Gyan will wrap up this year’s Australian tour at Byron Theatre on Sept 17, celebrating This Girl’s In Love, her latest successfully crowd-funded album produced locally at Museagency studios.
With international performance & song-writing credits, including Ricky Martin & Leanne Rimes, as well as diverse awards including an ARIA, Sydney Theatre Award for Sydney Opera House shows with Leunig, and short-listed by the Children’s Book Council, Gyan remains artistically true while maintaining a strong career, parallel to, but not quite in the mainstream.
This Girl’s In Love is an artist’s odyssey into the musical minds of the singers and composers she has always admired. This perfectly crafted collection features classic and less-familiar love songs plucked from the songbooks of great composers from Burt Bacharach and Henry Mancini to John Lennon and Tom Waits. Focus tracks are; Johnny Guitar by Peggy Lee/Victor Young, Tumbleweed by Neil Young and a pared-back version of her hit single from 1989, Wait.
‘voice – excellent, arrangements – almost spectral, … as she pulls it back from the edge of cheese.’ – Bernard Zuel, Sydney Morning Herald.
Support for this event – just announced:
Indigo Scarlet Sparke will be opening for Gyan on Saturday night at the Byron Theatre 8PM
Indigo released her bewitching EP titled ‘Nightbloom’ last July, working alongside talented fellow musician and producer Josh Arent. The album is haunting and mesmerising, taking you through the chambers of a soulful youth who has loved, fallen and risen again to stand once more with her vintage Fender and sing her tales. Indigo’s ethereal and melancholic sounds are reflective of alternative 70’s folk music, with soft rock undertones, evoking a 90’s nostalgia that leave you floating between realms past and present.
