BERLIN SYNDROME

FILM PLUS Q & A WITH DIRECTOR CATE SHORTLAND

7pm Friday 21st July
Byron Bay Community Centre

Multi award winning and highly acclaimed director Cate Shortland will present her most recent film BERLIN SYNDROME – a gripping thriller that “confirms Cate Shortland as a distinctive, cherishable talent” (Empire)

Following the screening Cate will talk about the making of her film and answer questions from the audience.

ABOUT THE FILM

Alone and adrift in Berlin, Australian Photographer Clare (Teresa Palmer) meets charismatic local Andi (Max Riemelt) and there is an instant attraction between them. But what begins as a passionate romance takes a sinister turn when Clare wakes up one morning to discover Andi has locked her in his apartment, and he has no intention of letting her leave, ever. Biding her time, Clare plots her escape as the walls of Andi’s apartment close in, all the while becoming drawn into a complex relationship with her captor.

“This movie identifies Ms. Shortland as a talent to watch.” – Glenn Kenny New York Times

“Shortland is an auteur and the imprint of her style is unmistakable. It’s a cinema that evokes the sensation of strong feeling.” – Jason Di Rosso ABC radio
